Ingredients:

  • 2 pounds of beef chuck roast or brisket, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 1 large white onion, roughly chopped
  • 5 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 tablespoon of ground cumin
  • 1 tablespoon of dried oregano
  • 1 tablespoon of chili powder
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • Sufficient beef broth or water to cover the meat
  • Corn or flour tortillas

Instructions:

  1. Begin by seasoning the beef cubes generously with salt, pepper, cumin, oregano, chili powder, minced garlic, chopped onion, and the bay leaves.
  2. Place the seasoned beef in a large pot and add just enough beef broth or water to cover the meat entirely.
  3. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, and then reduce the heat to a simmer. Allow the beef to gently simmer for 2 to 3 hours or until it becomes incredibly tender and easy to shred.
  4. Once the beef is tender, remove it from the cooking liquid and use two forks to shred it. Set the shredded beef aside and reserve the cooking liquid for later use.
  5. If using corn or flour tortillas, you can dip them into the hot beef cooking liquid to soften and warm them up.
  6. Assemble your tacos by placing a generous portion of the shredded beef inside each tortilla. You can also add your favorite taco toppings, such as lettuce, tomato, cheese, sour cream, and salsa.
  7. For an extra burst of flavor, you can optionally dip the assembled tacos back into the reserved beef cooking liquid just before serving.

Enjoy your delicious homemade beef tacos!
