Here’s how to create an authentic-tasting deep-dish pizza from Chicago. Complete with a thick coating of cheese, a buttery crust, and a somewhat sweet tomato sauce. This recipe makes two 9-inch deep-dish pizzas. If you have a family of 4-5 people or have guests around, make them both. If your household is smaller, follow the make-ahead/freezing directions in the recipe notes to freeze half of the dough.
Ingredients:
1 tsp oil
1 lb pizza dough
1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
1/3 lb Italian sausage
1/3 cup diced pepperoni
2/3 cup pizza sauce
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Directions:
Preheat your oven to 425°F (218°C).
Grease the bottom of a 9-inch cake pan with a light coating of oil.
Press the pizza dough into the bottom and up the sides of the pan.
Sprinkle 1 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese on the bottom of the dough.
Crumble the Italian sausage and distribute it evenly over the cheese.
Sprinkle the diced pepperoni on top of the sausage.
Pour the pizza sauce over the pepperoni.
Sprinkle the remaining shredded mozzarella cheese and grated Parmesan cheese on top of the sauce.
Bake the pizza for 30 to 35 minutes or until the dough is deeply golden brown.
Let the pizza cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
