Restaurants provide fried pickles as an appetizer. Make your own deep fried pickle spears with this simple recipe!
Ingredients:
8 spears of quartered pickles
1 cup milk
1 egg
flour (two cups)
1 cup bread crumbs (panko-style)
2 tablespoons powdered mustard
to taste : salt and pepper
4 cups oil for cooking
Instructions:
Set aside a baking sheet lined with tinfoil.
In a small bowl, whisk together the milk and egg. Combine the flour, panko bread crumbs, mustard powder, salt, and pepper in a second shallow dish.
Dip each pickle in the milk and egg mixture, then flip to coat fully in the flour mixture. Arrange the breaded pickles on a baking sheet.
Put the pickle tray in the freezer for 20 minutes (overnight works too).
In a pan, dutch oven, or deep fryer, heat the oil to 375 degrees F. Fry approximately 6 pickles at a time in the oil, flipping once to ensure all sides are golden brown. Transfer to a plate lined with paper towels. Rep with the remaining pickles. Serve immediately.
