Ingredients:

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound pork sausage
  • 1 medium green pepper, diced
  • 1 medium sweet onion, diced
  • Salt, pepper, and garlic to taste
  • 2 cans (15 ounces each) sloppy joe sauce or 1 large can
  • 1 block of cheddar cheese
  • 1 bag (24+ ounces) of frozen tater tots

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a large skillet, sauté the diced onions and green peppers until they are tender. Season with salt, pepper, and garlic to taste.
  3. Add the ground beef and pork sausage to the skillet. Cook until browned, breaking up the meat into small pieces as it cooks. Once cooked, drain any excess grease from the skillet.
  4. Stir in the sloppy joe sauce, making sure the meat is evenly coated. Cook for a few minutes until the sauce is heated through.
  5. Transfer the mixture from the skillet into a 9×13-inch baking dish, spreading it out evenly.
  6. Grate the block of cheddar cheese and sprinkle it over the meat mixture in the baking dish.
  7. Arrange the tater tots neatly in rows on top of the cheese layer. This will make it easier to cut and serve later.
  8. Place the casserole in the preheated oven and bake for 30 minutes.
  9. After 30 minutes, remove the casserole from the oven and sprinkle another layer of cheese on top.
  10. Return the casserole to the oven and bake for an additional 10 minutes, or until the tater tots are golden brown and crispy, and the cheese has melted.
  11. Once done, remove the casserole from the oven and let it sit for a few minutes to cool slightly.
  12. Cut into squares and serve. Enjoy this easy and tasty Sloppy Joe Casserole!
